OUR STORY

WHO WE ARE

We are dedicated Pilates and wellness providers. We believe the combination of Pilates, functional fitness training and therapeutic modalities can transform your physical and psychic wellbeing. We are also a host training facility for Balanced Body’s COREALIGN Teacher Training Program. We provide rigorous training to Pilates Professionals seeking to incorporate COREALIGN'S innovative, functional fitness tools and teachings.

WHAT WE DO

We meet students where they are and build confidence and success, one exercise at a time. We don't insist on choreography and we do customize programs with respect to each person's personal health history. We work with people of all abilities and ages. We draw from an abundance of exercises and equipment to address common restrictions and advance strength training. We teach not just what to move, but how to move.

WHY “FLOW”

Owner Cindy Reid began her pilates journey over 30 years ago. She opened Flow in 2002 and chose the name “flow” because Pilates gave her a greater sense of fluidity in movement and in life. The psychological state of "flow" is a perfect level of concentration, where the mind lets go of critical thoughts and distraction. Cindy aspires to bring Flow students the transformative experience and daily joy of a regular movement practice, so they too can experience flow.

About the Owner

Flow Studio is owned and directed by Cindy Reid, who opened the studio in 2002. Cindy was introduced to Pilates while completing an MA at Northwestern University in Choreography and Performance. She was immediately hooked on the core strengthening system as a way to avoid dance and hypermobility injuries. Since opening Flow, Cindy hosted the BASI Pilates Teacher Training Program, then went on to join BASI Faculty and conduct teacher-trainings at Flow and across the US and Canada for over ten years. In 2010, she hosted Balance Body's CoreAlign program at Flow, and joined the faculty for this groundbreaking training and tool designed by Jonathon Hoffman. In 2016, Cindy founded her own training program for the Pilates Jumpboard: Jumpboard Dynamics, which she has presented at Pilates on Tour and in studios throughout the US. After working with thousands of students, Cindy believes anyone can improve their functional strength, mobility and daily coordination with well-designed exercise and self-care protocols.

What People Are Saying

"I take both private classes and mat classes here. Regardless-the personal attention and patience the instructors at Flow provide is bar none. The instructors are truly invested in the practices they teach and their students–they stay late to answer questions, etc. I moved and there are certainly closer studios to my new digs but it’s well worth the longer walk! Pilates and yoga have transformed my body. THANKS FLOW!"

Mary

"Flow is an *extraordinary* studio. The classes are inspired, the teachers are supremely well-trained and welcoming. I’ve been coming here for three years now and have enjoyed every class I’ve taken (and never once been injured!). In the twenty-plus years that I’ve been taking classes, Flow is the absolute top!"

Deborah

"Cindy Reid and her staff offer a range of options: Pilates mat, Pilates equipment, group classes, private lessons, duo or triple sessions…and much more in the beautiful studio on Clark Street. All levels are welcome and encouraged, no attitudes or judgment. A great place to work out."

G.V.

"I’ve been going to Flow for 2 years and it keeps getting better. Instructors are all knowledgeable, challenging and professional. And the environment is friendly and conducive to great workouts. Whenever I’ve had an injury, they knew just what to do. Highly recommend it!"

Judy

"I have been going to flow for almost 3 years and love it. It has given me great results with my mind and body – something I had not found until I went to Flow. The instructors are great – very attentive and knowledgeable. The classes are typically small (less than 8) so each person in the class gets individual attention to maximize her workout. There are a variety of classes to take so your workout is always fun and new!"
